Operation Back 2 School Wants to help 6,000 HEB ISD Students this year!

Did you know that 55% of HEB ISD students come from homes that are economically disadvantaged? The goal of Operation Back 2 School is to supply these students with a new backpack, school supplies and provide their parents with resources to help all year long.

This year the goal is 6,000 students! With less than 2 weeks until the big event we have 2,000 kids remaining that need your help.

You can help a student start the year off right for just $30 or help a whole classroom full of kids for $600. Sponsor a student and then sign up to volunteer on that day to see the kid’s smiles and their eyes light up when they pick out their new backpack!

Get Up and Give – #NTXGivingDay is September 22 – #MissionCentralMetroplex and @KofC 7641

September 22 is North Texas Giving Day, an online donation event. Each year, people give millions of dollars to thousands of local nonprofit organizations. In support of this important day, the Chamber will be highlighting some of our nonprofit members in the coming weeks.

mission Central Stacked LogoMission Central empowers people in need to improve their own quality of life. We help meet emergency needs through our Village Pantry and Mobile Food Pantry, and we also offer transformational programs to help our neighbors build a better future. Through our Community Resource Center, Family Opportunities Program and Village Library after-school tutoring assistance, we are giving people the tools they need to secure long-term stability for their family.  We also operate the Coat of Many Colors Resale Shop, which offers affordable clothing and household items to the public. To learn more, please call 817-595-0011.

Knights of Columbus, KofC LogoThe Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael. J. McGiveny in 1882 in New Haven, Conn. Back then, he noticed there were a lot of challenges for people to contend with and they were unable to sustain their families. Father McGiveny decided to alleviate this situation by founding the KOFC order. The families would help each other in whatever way they could: If there was a need for a plumber, an electrician, an accountant, a lawyer or financial services, the others would immediately step in and help. The order and our members abide by 4 Principles, Charity being number one and most important, and then Unity, Fraternalism and Patriotism. Our basic operational unit is called a Council — each unit has a number and a name. Ours in Bedford is No. 7641, St. Anthony The Miracle Worker.  We are located at 1319 Brown Trail in Bedford.

Metroport Meals on WheelsMetroport Meals On Wheels, Inc. is a grass-roots volunteer advocate for the elderly and those in need, through home-delivered meals, senior center luncheons, and other support services. We are “neighbors helping neighbors,” alleviating hunger and isolation in our communities and fostering independence, worth and dignity of each individual we serve. Since our beginning in 1980, MMOW has built a people-centered program on a foundation of community support rather than federal, state, or United Way funding.  Your support allows us to serve any individual in need, regardless of age or financial status. To learn more, please call 817-491-1141.

CEC LogoThe Community Enrichment Center (CEC) works to break the cycle of poverty and abuse for both current and future generations.  Working with victims of domestic violence, low-income and homeless families in Northeast Tarrant County, the CEC provides housing, food and basic necessities, high school equivalency classes, employment and financial coaching. These integrated services empower individuals to become independent, emotionally and financially stable members of the community, with a focus on families while helping restore hope and self-esteem.
